HEROIC EFFORTS

Writing what he would die to see on screen, Geoffrey Maynard takes on a blank Final Draft document to intricately scribe true or fictional, cautionary rise and fall stories, sentimental tales of excess, and coming-of-age stories.

Principals over trends, Maynard's screenplays explore identity and are full of hope, grand heroism, greater purpose, redemption, and sacrifice.  He has obsessively researched and meticulously developed several original  properties and written “based on” screenplays in his catalog that explore the human condition with themes of honor, loyalty, brotherhood, and family. This is art made by an artist who cares about his works but understands it is commerce. Maynard's Low to high-budgeted works are relevant and arresting. His content is very attentive and in-tune with constantly shifting cultural changes and zeitgeist.

Maynard generally writes modern-era stories back to late 70's period pieces based on events ripped from real news headlines. He conceptualizes plot elements and aggrandizes historically rooted moments that have changed history's course. Some plot events include: Miami's drug wars, the Catholic Church sex scandal, the legendary Gardner Museum heist, as well as black swan events like 9/11, category five hurricanes, natural disasters, and Putin's unprovoked war in Ukraine.

In his spec features and media properties, Maynard has created desirable, well-defined multicultural roles suitable for both males and females, teens to elders. He specializes in writing strong female roles and has script samples of this available for review.

OF MORAL AUTHORITY

Crime melodramas regarding the conflicts between the law and the lawless are what Maynard predominantly pens. He also crafts fast- moving, globetrotting action thrillers with tactical units and secret government organizations, fantasy as rich as Lord of The Rings, and is dialed in on Marvel superhero action.

Maynard takes events that have blackened the world and personally move him. He internalizes and expresses them back though his creative filter. His screenplays are timely and modern takes on Greek tragedies with Biblically-inspired characters. Metaphorically rich, these are morality plays concerned with good versus evil. His genre of choice is Neo-Noir and its more defined variants like Sunshine Noir, Tropical Noir, and Neon Noir. He also artfully splices genres together to create fresh cross-genre takes. Some of Maynard's amalgamated genre spec scripts dip into the realm of Hitchcockian horror.

TALK TALK - BANG BANG METHODOLOGY

In possession of formidable storytelling chops and world-building skills, Maynard masterfully creates from scratch or works off beat sheets to develop existing IPs. Sometimes nonlinear, Maynard's manuscripts are rife with noble heroism, and explosively stylized balletic gun-fu bullet battles. In his outline process, he dynamically structures dialogue and drama around bursts of action and gunplay. His story engines are daring, effectual, and sustainable for seasons, sequels, or continued publications of books and comics.

THE DARK SIDE OF CHARACTERS' SOULS

A maven at cleverly creating and writing tragic character story arcs, Maynard harbors a deep fascination with the boundary of immorality and shades of gray within man. He is uniquely focused on order versus chaos in his character-based, high-drama ideas.

Maynard's works are inhabited by the likes of otherworldly gods and godlike skilled mortals, formidable waifs, determined crooks, tough-talking cops, rogues and vigilantes, witty masterminds, and detached psychopaths. In designing these characters, Maynard has taken into consideration the various torments of the human spirit.

Obsessed with broken, antiheroes, anti-villains and damaged heroes, Maynard's protagonists and antagonists are often underdog characters with hyper proficient skill sets. They are emotionally vulnerable and have experienced pain, tragedy, loss, and grief. Both male and female, these maximists display a glorification of the masculine ideal. They live among humanity by their own principles and are frequently driven by corrupt dogmatic belief systems.

Maynard's characters live by a code. Their word is bond and they are resolute in their actions. His characters also disregard simplistic, good versus bad viewpoints, and morally complicated, operate in muddled ethical lines. These unconventional characters view ethics and empathy as weaknesses.

Chronicling their "hero's journeys," Maynard delves into his character's pivotal moment of discovery and commitment to their life's purpose. He peels back the curtains to shine on the motivations of their inevitable choice to cross over upright lines and descend into moral turpitude.

CITY LIGHTS, PALM TREES, & NEON DELIGHTS

In addition to eroded morality, Maynard is intrigued by societal breakdowns, imperiled civilizations, and frontier border towns inhabited by gritty toughs. He is fond of depicting location cities as a character just like the principles.

A native suburban Bostonian, Geoffrey Maynard has resided in South Florida for over two decades.  He was a mover and shaker with cache in Fort Lauderdales' arts scene and Miamis' South Beach 90's nightlife high glam heydays. He is also regarded as a trailblazer in Boston's late 80's hip hop scene.

Experiencing diverse socio-cultural and economic lifestyles, Maynard is also an insider expert in writing fictional or factual properties about the underground and underworlds of both Miami and Boston.
Based on lived experiences, he has constructed his creative journey around around these two cities and scribes love letter-like visions of them, their denizens and legends as authentic and credible as M. Knight Shyamalan's takes on his muse, "Philadelphia."

DIVINELY FILMIC

Maynard's allegoric tales are peppered throughout with religious imagery and metaphors.

Movies that do this have awakened inspiration in Maynard from his own years raised in an Episcopal church as a youth. He sweetens the script reader's experience with "Easter eggs" that once the script is produced and released, aim to serve up insights on story beats and provide nuggets to be discussed at workplace water fountain conversations among fans.

POP CULTURE / COMIC BOOK / MOVIE DNA

Geoffrey Maynard's storytelling DNA stems from decades as an all-consuming fanboy of classic and current comic books featuring spandex heroes, hated and despised super-powered mutants symbolic of equal rights, and scientists subjected to their own experiments and turned rampaging beasts.
Maynard is a self-declared authority of Marvel, DC and Image Comics. Engage in conversations with Maynard regarding comic books and one will quickly find his knowledge of characters, canon story arcs, and creative teams from the mid-70s to the present day is near second to none. Maynard's adoration of comics existed long before comic book movies became today's hits.

Maynard also has a fond appreciation of manga, pop culture, video games, music, and sharp fashion awareness. He is a die-hard buff of illustrious film and TV shows produced and run by revered talent. He has a solid “written and directed by” who's who foundation of 80s – 90s  cinema and Hong Kong action flicks he still watches yearly.

From the jump, Maynard was an enthusiast of Tarantino's earliest works, True Romance and Reservoir Dogs. Although he is inspired by Tarantino, he has mostly drawn influence from auteurs Michael Mann (Heat, Thief, Miami Vice) and John Woo (Hard Boiled, Face Off, Bullet in The Head).

Maynard has thoroughly dissected, studied, evaluated, and subconsciously reverse-engineered all his influences' works. Consolidating his discoveries, his comic book and pop culture knowledge, he pureed it all down to form the base of his own screenwriting creative visions just as talent like Martin Scorsese has internalized the works of Orson Wells, Federico Fellini and Luchino Visconti.

In many ways, Maynard could be a future designated contender and ascend to one day carry on the stylized film batons for both writers/directors Mann and Woo. Or... be lauded as what comes next with his love child imprinting of their sensibilities.

BONUS TRAIT - THE BIZ

In addition to Geoffrey Maynard's efforts on the artistic front, he has cross-function experience. Left and right-brained, Maynard is a rare creative who actually and enthusiastically engages in the business of deal-making, production, movie-making, and some distribution.

From years of real-world working experience as a creative director/producer, he understands his creative endeavors must answer business problems. With a history of driving new corporate creative advertising business and knocking on doors, he is eager to pitch his content and properties for greenlighting onto the studio's conveyor belts. Maynard is also acute on entertainment licensing and has been involved with Licensing International events.

Maynard has amassed entertainment industry insight and knowledge gleaned off of  "a steady diet of books, Hollywood trades, magazines, documentaries, interviews, and blogs. He is savvy about what is happening both in front of and behind the scenes. He follows indie and studio production slates, credits, and corporate structures.
